14th Annual African Markeplace Gala

Once a year AMREF hosts an incredible night called the African Marketplace Gala. It’s an event like no other, where we celebrate the best Africa has to offer while supporting AMREF’s work improving health in Africa.

This year’s gala will focus on maternal and child health and will take place two days before Mother’s Day in Toronto.

The night will feature traditional music, authentic African cuisine and a vibrant marketplace.

A woman in Africa has a 1 in 16 chance of dying in childbirth compared to a woman in Canada who has a 1 in 30,000 chance.

This is the worst health inquality in the world today.

Midwives save mothers lives.

The solutions to reducing Africa's high maternal death rates are training midwives and equipping health centres.

In the last 10 years AMREF has trained 20,000 midwives in Africa - but we need to do more.
